Community Tute 04 - Importing excel data.
1. Download the following zip archive,
download here
and extract (using winzip) the pre-formatted excel file to 'C:\My Documents'.
2. Start Access and open the database we created in the last tute, select the 'Tables' tab and then under
'File' select 'Get External Data then 'Import'.
3. From the file type drop box choose the 'Microsoft Excel (*.xls)' option, you should now be able to pick the excel file you downloaded in step 1 of this tute.
Note:If you don't have the *.xls import file type, then install that data type (office setup) or download the Office 97 ValuPack here (17.3Mb!).
4. This is the import data wizard, make sure you have selected 'First Row Contains Column Headings'. Press the 'Next >' button.
5. Leave all the defaults here, just press the 'Next >' key.
6. Leave all the defaults here, just press the 'Next >' key.
7. Select 'No Primary Key' (as we will move the data from this table into the 'Main Table'), press the 'Next >' key.
8. Leave the default name and press the 'Finish' Key.
9. Ops forgot to include a field, add a new field to the 'Main Table', same as in
tute2 if you cant remember. Name the new field 'ExperienceLevel', leave the datatype as text (the default) and your done.
